Boulder Bucks has a colorful stone age theme and they have really made this theme work with the different features they offer in this slot machine. As many slots from this provider, Boulder Bucks has a Big Bet feature. Personally I'm a big fan of features like this, and on this lot machine they have used the concept in a nice way. As usual for the Big Bet games, the max win potential isn’t that high for the bet to win relation as Big Bets are played on the line stake of a €2.00 game, while you pay €20.00 or €30.00 to play it. Another really interesting thing about this game is that the payout percentage can be affected a lot by which choices you do in the free spin feature. Using the Big Bet feature, the payout percentage can actually range from a really low 77.91% to a high 98.00%. Have in mind that unless you do a really bad choice where you keep a low win when if offers you to spin the feature again, the payout percentage will be pretty good for this slot machine.

Game features

First of all, I would like to explain a bit about the Big Bet feature that's available on Boulder Bucks. This is a bet that can be played to increase the bonus game hit frequency in this game. It's available in 2 bet sizes, one €20 bet and one €30 bet. Both of the bets will be played at a normal €2 per spin bet size, and wins will pay the same as from a €2 spin. Each of the Big Bets will give you 5 spins that are played straight after each other on auto-spin. It might sound like a really bad deal to pay €20 or €30 for 5 spins at a €2 stake, but the nice thing about the Big Bet feature is that it gives you much more frequent bonus features. I'll explain the differences between the normal spins and the two Big Bet options in the below section where the difference are taking place.

Boulder Bucks has normal wild symbols on reel 2, 3 and 4 during the base game. These symbols substitute for all other symbols except the Boulder Bucks bonus symbols and the Pick Me Egg symbols. During the free spins several other wild features are made available, and I will explain each of them in the below section where the different free spin features are explained. The game can be played in bet sizes from €0.10 to €500 for regular single spins, and at €20 or €30 for the Big Bet spins. Big Bet feature: Here I'll try to explain the difference between the two Big Bet options. Both the €20 and the €30 Big Bet will buy you 5 spins that are played directly after each other. During these spins all payouts are the same as if you play €2 per spin. What makes it special is that the frequency of bonus features is a lot higher during the Big Bet spins. Both the different bets give you the possibility to trigger the free spin feature up to five times, that means that you can trigger it once for each of the 5 spins.

During the €20 Big Bet spins you are playing with the Boulder Smash bonus activated. A special feature is triggered if you get the bonus symbol on reel 1, and 3 but misses it on the 5th reel. Then a caveman will jump into the screen and give you a pick me bonus where you get a 1 out of 3 chance to find the bonus symbol, if you find it the bonus will be triggered.

If you chose to play the €30 Big Bet spins, you are playing with the Mega Boulder Smash bonus activated. Here it's enough to get 2 bonus symbols in total on reel 1, 3 or 5. As long as you have two bonus symbols in any of the positions, the caveman will appear and give you a 1 out of 3 chance to trigger the bonus feature.

Pick me bonus: It's possible to get a big white egg on reel number 2, 3 and 4. If you get a total of 3 eggs, a pick me bonus is triggered. You get to pick one of the 3 eggs, and whatever it hides, you'll win it. The egg can hide cash prizes or activate the free spin feature. Cash prizes won with normal bets are shown as a multiplier that will be multiplied to the total bet per spin, while cash prizes won during a Big Bet spin will show as a multiplier and be multiplied with the total bet per line!

Free spins bonus: The free spin feature can be triggered in two ways on this slot machine. One of them is by the pick me feature in the egg bonus, which I have explained above. The other and more usual way to trigger them, is by getting a bonus symbol on reel 1, 3 and 5. During normal spins this exact combination is needed, while it gives you additional ways to trigger it during the Big Bets, this is also explained earlier in this slot review.

One of the bonus symbols that trigger the bonus will have a number written on it, and it can be 1, 2 or 3. The number on your triggering combination tells how many tries and picks you get in the free spins. When you trigger the bonus a choice of 3 different spin and wild combinations are offered, and it's up to you to pick one. After you have played the selected feature, you get a chance to reject the outcome of your bonus and play one of the other bonuses. This is possible 1 or 2 times depending on if you got 2 or 3 on the bonus symbol. This is where the strategy part of the game is, will you get a better outcome in one of the other bonus features than the one you just had? That's what you have to decide, and this is where you can affect the payout percentage yourself.
